Tegaderm Tattoo Healing: Some tattoo artists use waterproof dressings such as Tegaderm tattoo healing (transparent adhesive film used in medicine to allow patients to take showers despite healing wounds). Your tattoo artist generally applies it to you and advises you to keep it on for 1 to 2 days before removing it.
It requires a certain rigor but will allow you not to “crust” and you can wear any clothing during your healing. In general, we avoid advising our customers for fear that they will make big mistakes such as never changing the cellophane, putting cream under the cellophane, etc. However, I recommend it when I do tattoos in color or with a lot of shadows and when the skin has been put to the test a little more than during a simple little tattoo.

Materials needed :

  • tegaderm tattoo plaster .
  • clean paper/cotton towel
  • mild liquid soap
  • You should change your Tegaderm dressing daily.
  • Wash your hands and disinfect them.
  • Clean your tattoo with mild soap, rinse well.

Allow the tattoo to air dry without any assistance such as a paper towel or bath towel. 5 minutes approximately. (you can dry the skin around the tattoo with a paper towel of course)
Once dry, wrap the tattoo with well-plated cellophane, taking care to drive out the air. Use the inside of the cellophane of course!

Place tape all around to make the dressing waterproof to the outside elements.
If your cellophane wraps around the arm, calf, and thigh, do not go all the way around with the adhesive plaster, it would make a tourniquet, so you place a good strip of it just at the level of the tattoo at the top and bottom. If your tattoo is in the middle of the back, in the neck, or on the belly, cut out a square of cellophane and place the plaster all around the square.

Never put cream under the Tegaderm tattoo bandage. You should never keep the same Tegaderm cellophane for several days. So as not to give bacteria a chance. Finally free! Remove your last cellophane, wash your tattoo with mild soap, a little skin comes off and gives way to shiny skin. Let it air dry and now apply the healing cream of your choice or shea butter or coconut oil 1-2 times a day until the skin becomes matte and looks normal again. Very restrictive during the day when you are not at home, you have to be very rigorous. If you realize that this healing is too restrictive after x days and that you are not doing it correctly, you can interrupt it at any time and contact your tattoo artist.

Your tattoo has now successfully healed, you can show it off on the beach or by the pool, but watch out for the sun! I advise you to protect it with an index 50 sunscreen so that it stays beautiful as long as possible. A tattoo (and the skin in general eh) that takes the sun to see its color. Apply sunscreen only to a healed tattoo. Before that no sunbathing.
