How Apple changed the market for modern gadgets

The company, which started its journey with the production of computers in a garage, has managed to make several revolutions among smart gadgets by today. Apple can be loved and hated, but it is simply impossible not to notice its technological breakthroughs and huge impact on the market. And how exactly the company managed to leave a mark on the entire digital industry – we will understand.

Use of beautiful packaging
Until the release of the original iPhone in 2007, no one knew that the box of a smartphone could be as impressive as the gadget itself. This was due to the fact that most manufacturers of that time did not pay attention to the quality of packaging and kit even in flagship solutions. “Users enjoy the gadget itself, not its box”: representatives of the most popular Nokia company believed.

Now it’s hard to believe that acquaintance with a flagship device can begin with a box made of pressed cardboard, where accessories will be packed in a primitive “ziplock” – and this is how most smartphones were delivered. This continued until Apple showed the whole world what emotions can be caused by unpacking their gadgets.

Steve Jobs, one of the founders of Apple, was convinced that design is an equally important component of any product. He personally took part in the development of many of the company’s devices, working on the appearance and its convenience. Thus, at the beginning of 2011, Steve was listed as a co-inventor in 212 different patents.—verified-by-worldatwork-experts—verified-by-adobe-experts—verified-by-adobe-experts—verified-by-adobe-experts—verified-by-adobe-experts—verified-by-netapp-experts?—verified-by-redhat-experts—guarantee-good-results-in-1z0-1032-21-exam—verified-by-oracle-experts—guarantee-good-results-in-1z0-1043-21-exam—guarantee-good-results-in-ccdak-exam

“Steve and I spent a lot of time on packaging. We love to unpack products. This ritual causes special sensations. The unboxing can be a real show, create a story.” —Jonathan Ive, Chief Designer at Apple at the time.

Since the introduction of the original iPhone, the whole world has learned that the box and its equipment plays a huge role in the perception of the gadget and the pleasure of buying. Only after Apple, other manufacturers began to reconsider their approach to gadget packaging. At present, every mid-budget Android smartphone is packaged very presentably.

The advent of tablets
Apple iPad was introduced on January 27, 2010 personally by Steve Jobs. The device received the most powerful hardware at that time from Apple and a bunch of opportunities for working and absorbing content. Most importantly, the iPad was literally the first of its kind. At first, many users did not understand why they needed the same iPhone, but with a larger display. However, later everything changed – people around the world very well accepted the first tablet for its portability and ease of use.

“It’s very thin and what this device can do is incredible. You have never had such an impression of browsing the web. It’s just amazing when you see absolutely all the information right in front of your eyes and you can scroll through it with your fingers. It’s much better than on a laptop or smartphone” – Steve Jobs, as part of the presentation of the iPad.

Thus, the first generation iPad became the first gadget in the world, which marked the beginning of a whole form factor of mobile devices. Thanks to Apple’s tablet, a huge number of brands began to develop in this direction, filling the market with tablets “for every taste and color.”

Protecting devices with biometrics
Many mistakenly believe that Apple was the first to develop data protection using biometric data. In fact, technologies similar to Touch ID appeared much earlier – the first phone with a fingerprint scanner was the Pantech GI 100, released in 2004. However, the main problem for many manufacturers then was that most users did not care about data protection. Due to the lack of operating systems and many applications, there was simply nothing to protect in such phones.

Almost 10 years later, a lot has changed. By 2013, cloud services and banking applications began to develop especially actively, and users began to accumulate personal files. Only by this time people realize the importance of their data and try to secure it. It was then that Apple very timely introduced the world to the iPhone 5S – its first smartphone with Touch ID. The society accepted the scanners extremely positively, because this method of unlocking the gadget is many times faster and safer than the passcode. Immediately after Apple, fingerprint scanners began to actively develop in Android flagships, and soon in the entire market, even budget smartphones.

A similar revolution from Apple occurred in 2017 with the introduction of Face ID in the iPhone X. After the introduction of the new face recognition technology, all well-known smartphone manufacturers also began to master such unlocking methods.

Wireless Technologies and Ecosystem
Apple is a leading company in the development of wireless technology for the masses. iCloud cloud storage, which allows you to safely store any information, was released back in 2011. AirDrop, launched with iOS 7 in 2013, allows you to transfer any files between Apple devices within the same Network without any wires. The release of the iPhone 7 without the audio jack familiar to everyone, in turn, directly hinted to users that the era of wireless headphones had arrived.

However, the main thing for which they love Apple technology is the ecosystem. With a shared account, every device in the company can interact with each other. They called on the iPhone, but answered from the MacBook or Apple Watch, copied an important title from the computer, and pasted it in the notes on the smartphone – these and many other features of the ecosystem still leave no chance for other manufacturers of modern gadgets. It was Apple who showed users that there are so many things in common between different devices.

For the convenience of users, Microsoft in 2018 added to Windows the ability to synchronize a smartphone with a computer in a similar way. With My Phone, you can manage calls, clipboard, and smartphone files right from your Windows 10 PC.

Digital App Stores
Today it is difficult to imagine a smartphone without an application store. Every day we search, install and use games or software in the App Store and Google Play. But before there were no stores – users searched for and downloaded everything they needed from the Internet on their own. This was until the first iPhone came out with the App Store preinstalled.

The App Store was introduced in 2007 along with the first generation iPhone, but began to function only with the second version of the mobile OS. A year later, the store had over 800 different applications, and the total number of downloads exceeded 10 million. The App Store became a discovery not only for iPhone users, but also for a huge number of developers – the store allowed selling copyrighted content at prices ranging from $0.99 to $9.99, albeit with a 30% Apple commission.

The presence of digital markets in the OS as a de facto standard and the abundance of application stores from manufacturers are the merit of Apple. It became the first company that, with the help of just one utility, was able to provide users with a large selection of high-quality and affordable content.

With its ideas and technological breakthroughs, Apple often sets trends for other manufacturers. Of course, not all of her decisions benefit the market – remember how the appearance of the “bangs” in the iPhone affected most Android smartphones. Nevertheless, today we use a huge number of convenient chips in gadgets and do not even suspect that most of them have become possible thanks to Apple.
